[KHAMSA] KHAMSA Edit: October’s Birthstone Duo, Opal and Tourmaline
October is a month that can’t settle on a single color, so it was given two stones that refuse to choose.
Opal, the month’s traditional birthstone, holds a shifting play of light within it: flashes of green, blue and flame-orange that change with every turn. The ancient Romans prized it as the stone that contained every other gem at once.
Its alternative, Tourmaline, takes a different approach. Its name is often traced to the Sinhalese turmali, loosely meaning “mixed stones,” and it comes in more shades than almost any other gem, from deep green and electric pink to the two-toned watermelon variety.
One stone carries all its color within a single surface, and the other spreads it across a full spectrum.
In this edit, KHAMSA gathered the pieces that celebrate both, for October-born readers and for anyone who doesn’t want to settle on just one shade.
