I met Meena 13 years ago at Hady Beydoun’s ink parlor, never imagining that our families already shared a history unknown to us both. Anyone who knows Meena knows her energy is unforgettable, captivating in the purest way.

A friendship forged, a strong connection developed; Meena became more of a sister. Maya and Zeenat became the perfect extension of that bond, completing the trio as though life itself believes in “jamais deux sans trois.”

A year later, I attended my first event at the Mukhi Sisters’ flagship in Beirut Souks, where I bought my first ring from the “Dream Catcher” collection.

“Pat, you need to start your own collection.”

And with those words, I began collecting not just jewelry, but one-of-a-kind pieces of art. My favorite pieces include the “Binding Love” and “Fleur de Lys” rings but the one that I never take off is my Navratna ring feeling protected all day long.

It was only a matter of time till I met Lady Effat! Impeccably dressed to a T, beautiful inside and out, I did not expect anything less. She had brought to the world three gorgeous ladies, mirroring her style, drive and humanity. Her genuine care and indirect support to the Art touched me deeply.

The best story is what ensues next.

One Saturday evening, back in 2017, I went through the jewelry my father left me and found a box hidden deep in my drawer. Inside was a pendant and matching earrings.

Then I noticed the name on the box: Ashoka. Just days earlier, Meena had told me about her family’s history and her father’s shop in Hamra carrying that very name. I was speechless. Somehow, long before us, our families had already crossed paths and now both patriarchs are in heaven playing tawleh!

Life has mysterious ways of reconnecting people. Some bonds seem to travel across generations. Today, I have a daughter. As my father before me, I will be leaving my pieces to her, knowing very well that in the future, her story will also intertwine with the new generation in the making chez Les Mukhi.

However, I can’t end this without mentioning the true star of the story: Charlitto!! the first and only dog I’ve ever truly bonded with, pet, played with, and even let curl up on my lap!

Mukhi Sisters, Lady Effat, Baba Mukhi and Charlie, family isn’t defined by blood but by love, loyalty and choice. You are my chosen family.
